Rafael "Ralph" Rios Martinez gained his wings on Sunday, April 26, 2026 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones. Rafael was born December 28, 1934 to Felipe Solis Martinez and Clemencia Rios in San Perlita, Texas. On May 21, 1957 he married the love of his life Juanita Medrano. They had three beautiful daughters: Ruth, Antonia, and Rebecca. Rafael worked for the City of Abilene from 1965 until 1966 when he and his family moved to Westminster, California. He worked for a carpet company as a material handler in Westminster until his retirement in 1989. Rafael moved back to Abilene where he resided until the Lord called him home. He enjoyed spending his retirement fishing, playing bingo, daily visits to the donut shop, going to the casino, and feeding the birds in his yard. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. Rafael was quite a character. He would fill a room with his laughter and love as he spent time with family and friends joking, singing, recounting family stories and sharing family history. Rafael was a long-time faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Rafael was the last surviving child of ten. He was preceded in death by his parents Felipe & Clemencia Martinez, siblings Rito Martinez, Vicente Martinez, Bernardino Martinez, Rudy Martinez, Genaro Martinez, Juanita Rodriguez, Alejandra Villalobos, Antonia Jauregui, and Rosa Martinez, daughter Ruth Busby and granddaughter Toni Marie Chapman. He is survived by his daughters Antonio "Toni" Murillo and Rebecca "Becky" Guerrero as well as eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandaughter. There was a ninety year age difference between Rafael and his great-great-granddaughter, Luna. Rafael is also leaving behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be especially missed by his long-time special friend, Irene Garza. Visitation will be held at North's Funeral Home Friday, May 8 from 6:00-7:00pm with a Rosary from 7:00-8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Abilene on May 9, 2026 at 10:00am.
