Obituary

Elvis "Ray" Lovelady Jr., 73, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Ray was born on March 13, 1952, in Abilene to Elvis Ray Lovelady Sr. and Patsy Ruth Lovelady. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ray lived a life rooted in service, hard work, and love for the outdoors. On July 2, 1976, he married his heart's forever companion, Polly Sue, and together they shared 48 wonderful years. Ray had a deep passion for music and was known for singing classic rock, blues, and southern rock. He found joy in simple pleasures-casting a fishing line, camping under the stars, and working the land as a dedicated cattle rancher. An experienced horseman, he could rope and ride with skill and ease. His love for animals, especially dogs, was well-known; he was a gifted dog trainer, particularly with German Shepherds. Whether out hunting, tending to the ranch, or sharing a song, Ray brought warmth, strength, and authenticity to everything he did. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, a man of the land, a true outdoorsman, and a friend to many. Ray is preceded in death by his father; Elvis Ray Lovelady Sr., mother; Patsy Lovelady, and son; Cody Grant Lovelady. He is survived by his wife; Polly Lovelady, daughters; Cindy Lovelady, Jennifer Brody and husband Alan, Joannie Hammer and husband Matt, and sisters; Linda McElfresh and husband Richard, Patti Patty and Tammy Eason, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Ray Lovelady Jr.'s legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the stories told by those who loved him. He will be deeply missed.
