Reginald Lessing 58 of Abilene passed away Sunday September 26 2010. A memorial service for Reg will be held at 1:30 PM on October 1 2010 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest 602 Meander St. Abilene Texas with Father N. Luke Back officiating under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Reginald was born January 20 1952 in Waco TX the second of three children born to William D. Lessing and Mary E. K. Lessing. In 1954 "Reg" moved with his family to Abilene TX. He grew up on South Jefferson Street and attended Bonham Elementary School Lincoln Junior High School and Cooper Senior High School. He was a member of the varsity football team at Cooper and he also played football at McMurry University in Abilene. Reg moved to Lubbock TX attended Texas Tech University and worked as a bouncer at Freeman's nightclub. He began working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and eventually became a locomotive engineer. In his time off from the railroad Reg traveled the United States on his motorcycle. Reg's years as an engineer and a biker were the happiest years of his life but they ended in 1994 with a nearly fatal motorcycle accident that left him partially paralyzed. He retired from the railroad and devoted himself to various projects at his home and his farm. Reg was a friendly warm-hearted man who never lost his railroader-biker spirit or his enthusiasm for life. Reg leaves behind his brother Dan Lessing and sister-in-law Vicky of Abilene TX their daughters Michelle Lessing of Abilene TX and Danielle Lessing of Lubbock TX; his sister Kay Hinsley and brother-in-law Don of Oklahoma their daughters Mackenzie Spencer and her husband David of Humble TX and Andrea Wood and her husband Russel of Ft.
