Riley J Poe, 90, of Decatur, formerly of Abilene, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Hawley Cemetery with Bob Connel officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street. Riley J. Poe was born August 22, 1925 in Sweetwater, Texas to Joel Vergil and Betty Leona Hope Poe. R.J entered the Navy at age 18 and served as a Seabee in WWII. Having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, he traveled to every continent. He returned to Sweetwater after the war where he married Eva Ross on June 12, 1948. They had three children. The family moved to Abilene where he worked at Dyess AFB as a fire truck mechanic until his retirement as Supervisor of Fire Truck Maintenance. R.J served as a deacon and then an elder at Baker Heights Church of Christ and later at Oldham Lane Church of Christ. R.J and Eva moved to Decatur in 2006 to live with their daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe H. Poe, Alfred Chapman Poe, and his sister, Leona Victoria Poe Harris. He is survived by his wife, Eva Poe. Two sons, Rodger J Poe and wife Janie of Henderson, Texas, Tony Wayne Poe and wife Madison of Tuscumbia, Alabama. One daughter, Roxie Jan Poe of Decatur, Texas. Five grandchildren, Rita Poe Alcantara and husband Mickey Riley J Alcantara of Brenham, Texas, Kara Poe Ferguson and husband Jordan Ferguson of Houston, Texas, Tiffany Poe Caldwell and husband Jonathan Caldwell of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Wesley Poe of Tuscumbia Alabama, Emily Poe Hoffman and husband Cory Hoffman of Decatur, Texas. Seven great-grandchildren, Savannah Alcantara, Christian Sedeno, Karis McGinty, Henlee Ferguson, James Caldwell, Lillian Caldwell and Charlie Caldwell.
