Robert Dwaine Burns April 5, 1947 - July 11, 2026 Robert Dwaine Burns, lovingly known to family and friends as "Dwaine," passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 79. As he embarked on his final adventure, he left behind a legacy of hard work, music, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. Dwaine was born on April 5, 1947, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Robert John Burns and Dorotha Virginia Burns. As the oldest son in a large family, he learned early the values of responsibility, perseverance, and caring for those around him. Those values carried him throughout his life and became the foundation of the man so many knew and loved. A true cowboy at heart, Dwaine lived a life defined by hard work, independence, and a deep love for the land. Throughout his years, he worked in many capacities, including driving a truck for Arrow Gas and ranching in Tatum, New Mexico; Whiteface, Texas Utopia, Texas; and Lamesa, Texas, before eventually establishing his own ranch in Anson, Texas. He was well known as a skilled team roper, horse breaker, and farrier, shoeing horses for a living and sharing his knowledge with countless friends and fellow ranchers. In his later years, he served the county where he resided, continuing his lifelong commitment to hard work and service. One of Dwaine's greatest passions was music. The steel guitar was more than an instrument to him-it was an extension of his soul. Over the years, he played with numerous bands, bringing joy to audiences across the region and forging lifelong friendships through his love of country music. Whether on stage or gathered around family and friends, Dwaine's music created memories that will live on for generations. On June 30, 1977, Dwaine married Jan Linn. Dwaine had two sons, Ira Burns of San Antonio, Texas, and Shawn Burns of Anson, Texas, both of whom brought immense pride and joy to their father's life. Dwaine's greatest treasures were his family. He is survived by his wife, Jan Burns; his sons, Ira (Dawn) Burns and Shawn Burns; Mother-in-Law Janette Linn; eight grandchildren, Brandon Burns, Josh Burns of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brady Burns of Utopia, Texas, Zack Burns of San Antonio, Texas, Shaylee Camp of Maui, Hawaii, Peyton Burns of Boerne, Texas; Mikala Haynes, Fort Bragg, NC, Rebekah Haynes, San Antonia, and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him endless happiness. He is also survived by his siblings: Dwight Burns (Ann), Dale Burns (Robbie), Drew Burns (Anna), and Debbie Burns (Kai)Cheatem, as well as his brothers-in-law, David (Betty) Linn of Oakdale, California, and Dennis (Janee) Linn of Hickman, California, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, Robert John Burns and Dorotha Virginia Burns, and his brother, Don Burns. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hendrick Hospice, Dr. Mossack, and the entire nursing staff for the tender love, compassion, and exceptional care they provided to Dwaine during his final days. Your kindness brought comfort not only to him but to all who loved him. Though Dwaine's boots have left the trail, his spirit remains in every ranch sunrise, every steel guitar melody, and every story shared around the table. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, accomplished cowboy, talented musician, and loyal friend.
