Robert D. Vann, 91, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 1:00 PM at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at North's Funeral Home. Robert was born October 11, 1934, in Kempner, Texas, to Douglas McRoy Vann and Mamie Annie Havins. He lived a simple and steady life, known for his easygoing nature and the quiet joy he found in everyday moments. Robert enjoyed "piddling around," always keeping busy with small projects and fixing things. He had a natural knack for working with his hands and could repair just about anything. He loved spending time fishing and was a familiar face at the drag strip in Abilene, where he enjoyed the excitement and camaraderie. He will be remembered as a jokester who brought smiles to those around him, as well as for his laid-back spirit and kind presence. Robert's memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved him. Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents, Douglas Vann and Mamie Havins, his wife, Betty Vann, son, Terry Vann, and sister, Sable Reynolds. Left to cherish his memories are: son Robbie Vann, daughters, Beckie Johnston, Sandra Shelby and Judy Jones, grandchildren, Cameron Vann, Candice Vann, Joseph and Amey Pace, and Chris Weaver.
