Roland Johnson 99 of Abilene passed away July 29 2012. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Minter Lane Church of Christ with Shawn Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Roland was born on October 15 1912 in Laredo Texas to Dudley and Maud McFarland Johnson. He graduated from Arlington High School and joined the military serving the military serving in the U> S> Cavalry and the U.S. Army for 24 years. He was a preacher for the Church of Christ while serving the military. After retiring Roland completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Religious Education from Abilene Christian University. He preached full time for Churches of Christ in Great Bend Kansas and Petersburg Texas. He also worked for the Christian Service Center in Abilene. Roland was married to Margaret Allen for 74 years. He was preceded in death by his wife parents and a son Don Johnson. He is survived by daughters Myrna Johnson and husband Bob of Nacogdoches Texas Shirley Evans and husband Arnold of Midlothian Texas Teresa Terry and Pamela Johnson of Abilene: sons Philip Johnson and wife Linda of Rhome Texas and Michael Johnson of Norman Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren Chris Jon Paul and Rebecca Evans and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren Alyssa Zack Brianne Bailey and Gage Johnson and Garrick and Aubrey White.
