Obituary

Ronald Russell Dennis, 74, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on November 14, 2025, in Abilene. Ronald was born on December 14, 1950, in Electra, Texas, to Kenith and Leatrice Dennis. He grew up in Denver City, Texas, where he received his early education and developed the character and work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. After graduating high school, he attended South Plains Junior College, where he met the love of his life, Shirley. He continued his education at Texas Tech University, and the day after earning his degree, he and Shirley were married-beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, laughter, and faith. Ronald began his career as a coach and teacher for Plainview ISD, where he influenced the lives of countless students. His time in the classroom and on the field was cut short when he was drafted into the military, where he proudly served his country. After returning to Civilian life, Ronald spent many years working in the Permian Basin Oilfield and later retired from a career with the TNRCC in Abilene, Texas. Outside of work and service, he was an avid crappie fisherman, a quail hunter, and a devoted gardener. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning, busting a covey on a cool morning, or tending to his plants at home, he found joy in the simple, peaceful moments of life and was most happy in an outdoor environment. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Dennis of Abilene; his son, Dusty Dennis and wife Heather of Boerne, Texas; and three cherished grandchildren, Peylin, Anistyn, and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenith Dennis and Leatrice Rice-Dennis A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
