Sara Queen, 92, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at a local hospital. Visitation will be Sunday, April 19 at North's Funeral Home from 4pm to 5:30pm. Funeral services will be Monday, April 20 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church at 10am with Steve Brooks and Amy Feltz officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange. Pallbearers will be members and former members of the Renewers Sunday School Class: Carlton Villers, Ray Martin, Glyn Hammons, Bob Washam, Paul Rankin, and John Stowe. Sara was born January 12, 1923 at Rentz, Georgia to Cullen and Eugena Lowery. She married Samuel Bernard Thompson in 1942. They moved to Abilene in 1950 when her husband joined Mc Murray College. She taught school in the Abilene Independent School System for several years, sold real estate, and was a dorm mother at McMurry College. Sara was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she taught the Renewers Sunday School Class for 28 years. The Sara Circle at the church was named for her. She was preceded by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, a son, Stephen Thompson, husbands, Samuel B. Thompson, Earl Hardt, and Lowell Queen. She was also preceded by a granddaughter, Michele Lee Thompson Larimer. Survivors include a son, Lowery (Barbara) Thompson of Monroe, La., a daughter Norma Thompson Harper of Abilene, a stepson, Samuel B. Thompson, Jr. (Peggy) of North Carolina, Grandchildren Amy Thompson, Laura Mickail, Jason Springer, Tana Springer, Bryan Thompson, and Lisa Caudill. Great-grandchildren Avri Herndandez, Amelia Springer, Caroline Mickail, Nate Larimer, Laura Thompson Ashley Thompson. The family would like to thank Wisteria Place Nursing Facility staff for their efforts, care, and dedication to Sara that played such a special role in her life, and the lives of her family.
