Seymour Beitscher 88, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Historical Paramount Theater with Rabbi Murray Berger officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Mr. Beitscher was born March 16, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, to Jacob and Anna (Wieser) Beitscher. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He served in the Civil Air Patrol, Rocky Mountain Region 7, from 1966-1972. He married Gay Smedley June 14, 1975 in Abilene. He established and operated AAA Vacuum from 1975 – 1994. He was also an active leader in the Abilene business community, and he enjoyed the challenge of real estate and property development. He was a member of Temple Mizpah, EAA, and Quiet Birds. He enjoyed flying and flew fifty Angel flights from 2002-2007. While growing up in Brooklyn, New York, on Chester Avenue, he had many friends with whom he remained in touch. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Arthur "Artie" Beitscher, two daughters; Cindy Beitscher Grimes and Dana Beitscher. He is survived by his wife, Gay Beitscher. Children, Robert Beitscher and wife Jeanne of Breckenridge, Colorado, David Smedley and wife Diane Sheri McNeill and husband Steve, Anthony Smedley, and Twila Smedley, Two brothers, Melvin Beitscher and wife Carol of Newport Beach, California and Stanley Beitscher and wife Ana Maria of Arvada, Colorado. Two sisters, Lenore Brachman and husband Jim of Boca Rotan, Florida and Tina Sokoloff and husband Sol, and honorary family member, Irwin Pasternack. He is also survived by his large and loving extended family of grandchildren, who would spend many weekends with him, and his great grandchildren. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Mesa Springs and Hendrick Hospice for their gentle care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are to be made to Temple Mizpah, the Abilene Philharmonic, the Historical Paramount Theatre, and Hendrick Home for Children or to a charity of their choice.
