Sharon Frances Martin Kennemur, 82, of Abilene, Tx passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on July 2, 2026 at Hendrick Medical Center North.
Sharon was born in Merkel, Tx on September 4, 1943 to parents Roy Lee Martin and Mary Frances Lewis Martin. The oldest of five sisters, Sharon was a fun loving and studious child. She attended Abilene ISD schools, graduating from Abilene High School as a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation she attended medical records school.
Sharon married Abilene resident Doyle Boiles who worked as a welder. Their son Jason was born in 1969. The young family moved to Dallas where a few years later their daughter Jessica was born. Soon afterwards the family returned to Abilene. Unfortunately this marriage ended but Sharon was a survivor. In order to provide for her family she worked several different jobs over the years including medical records for local physicians, as a secretary for Petrolero Explorations during the 1980s oil boom and as a dispatcher for the Abilene Fire Department. As a single mother Sharon provided a loving and stable home for her two children. Spending time with family was always important to her so many weekends, birthdays and holiday celebrations were spent with her mother, her sisters and their families.
Sharon eventually met and married the love of her life Dewey Lamon Kennemur who was a local self employed contractor. Together they built a life of love and family. Sharon began working as a dorm clerk at the Abilene State School while Dewey continued his construction and remodeling company. Over the years they also owned and operated D&S Courier Services as well as D&S Dunebuggies. The family enjoyed weekends at the lake boating and skiing, dune buggy adventures and a lot of time outdoors. After Sharon retired from her job with the state school they moved to Lake Brownwood where many happy and treasured memories were made. They especially enjoyed hosting family at the lake and Sharon truly loved being "Gama" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After her husband's passing in 2016 Sharon returned to Abilene to be closer to family. She once again displayed her survivor mentality when she defeated cervical cancer in 2018. She spent her later years living with her two beloved Jack Russell terriers. She loved doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, tending to her plants, reading and watching classic sitcoms and western series on TV.
She is survived by her son Jason Boiles and her daughter Jessica Stewart both of Abilene, her grandchildren Hunter Patterson, Robert Stewart III, Darien Stewart, all of Abilene, Jacob Stewart of Andrews, seven great-grandchildren, her sisters Pat Hart of Lawn, Gale Wright of Clyde and Becky Ward of Nebraska along with numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Kennemur, her parents Roy and Mary Martin and her sister Kathy Seymour.
Her love of family, her outspokenness and adventurous survivor spirit along with her kindness and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Celebration of life service will be held Friday July 10, 2026 at 6pm at North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-6pm.
