While surrounded by her adoring family, our Heavenly Father opened his arms to welcome Shirley Ann Anton (Stricklin) into heaven on July 28, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Shirley was born on June 25, 1939 in Grand Falls, Texas to her loving parents Claude and Flora Stricklin. She was the youngest of six children that included her brothers Jake, Bill, Foye and Loye (all deceased), and her only "Sis" and best friend Wanda Johnson.
The joy of Shirley's life was raising her "girls" Vicki Lynn Steadham and Lisa Dawn Miller both of Abilene, Texas. Together, the three of them shared an unbreakable bond built on faith and loyalty.
Vicki and Lisa gave Shirley the greatest gift of all in her grandchildren. Her heart grew bigger with the arrival of each one. Jennifer Aynsley Knowles (1985), Lara Taylor Jacques (1988), and Bronc Rutledge Dillard (1997). It was a miracle to witness God's mercy as Shirley was able to open her eyes one final time, smile and say "my babies" as they all gathered around her bedside.
In addition to her daughters, sister and grandchildren; Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years "Dar" Bennett Anton. Also to mourn her loss is son in law, Dr. T. Harrop Miller, granddaughter Jennifer's husband Lt. Alexander Knowles, and numerous family and friends; including her two BFFs Sue Goolsby and Beverly McIlheran.
Shirley will be best remembered for her amazing sense of humor and love of shopping. She enjoyed a good mani/pedi and no one was surprised when she would show up with blue, purple, or yellow painted toenails. Shirley was of course the original "fashionista".
Graveside services will be held at Buffalo Gap Cemetery, Buffalo Gap, Texas on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers Shirley requested that donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the Salvation Army.
