Shirley Virginia Barton-Sparks of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Shirley was born on July 5, 1942, in Fredericktown, Missouri, to Jewel Ervin and Roy E. Mackley. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from Potosi High School in Potosi. On March 31, 1963, she married Roger Barton in Potosi, MO. A long-time resident of Abilene, Shirley was a devoted member of Connection Point Church and spent over 30 years working at Briarstone Manor and the Abilene Woman's Club. She was known for her warm heart, work ethic, and her love of animals. An avid dog lover, Shirley always had a puppy on her lap and a soft spot for four-legged companions. She will also be remembered for her beautiful red hair and gentle spirit. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, and her husband, Roger Barton. Left to cherish her memory are her loving spouse, James Sparks; daughter, Veronica Sisk and husband David; sister, Mary McEntire; granddaughter, Breelyn Shriner; stepson, Josh Sparks; and numerous nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. Arrangements are under the direction of North's Funeral Home.
