Shirley Mae Sutton, 78, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 2:35 a.m., surrounded by her loving family. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Both services will take place at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street, Abilene, Texas 79601. Shirley was born on October 9, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, to John and Rennie Timberlake. She spent much of her childhood in Hico, Texas. Later, she moved to Abilene, Texas, where she married the love of her life, Royce Othel Sutton, on December 29, 1963. Shirley was a hardworking and dedicated woman who held various roles throughout her life. She began her career at Timex, later attended beauty school, and found joy in cake decorating. She eventually worked at the Abilene State School, where she faithfully served until her retirement. Shirley will be remembered for her strong faith, her love for her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. She is survived by her children: Debra Fields and husband Jack of Abilene; daughter-in-law Carla Sutton of Hawley; daughter Ann Anders and husband Ken Stephens of Abilene; son James Sutton and wife Cassandra of Eula, and daughter Kim Martinez and husband Albert of Abilene. She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends throughout the community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Royce Othel Sutton; her son, Billy Dwayne Sutton; her parents, John and Rennie Timberlake; her brother, Otis Boyle; her granddaughter, Jessica Leann Fields; and her great-grandson, Christian Rodriguez. Following the funeral service, the family will gather at Shirley Sutton's home, located at 2225 Oakland Drive, Abilene, Texas 79603.
