Simon James Martin was born in Perham, Minnesota. He graduated from Minot High School in Minot, North Dakota, and proudly joined the United States Air Force immediately after high school. He served his country honorably for 12 years as a Security Policeman. After his military service, Simon continued a strong work ethic through various positions, including OSI Security and Pinkerton Security. He also served as Assistant Chef at the Petroleum Club. Simon also worked at Jack and Jill Donuts, Town Crier Steakhouse, and the Flying J Truck Stop. Simon was known for his love of conversation, his outgoing nature the fact that he never met a stranger. He had a passion for singing hymns with his amazing baritone voice at church over the years. He enjoyed spending time playing his favorite Facebook game, Train Station. He cherished the memories of camping trips with his children when they were young. A deeply patriotic man, Simon lived by his favorite quote: "God Is In Control." On October 5, 1973, Simon married the love of his life, Julie, at Caps Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong partnership of 52 years filled with family and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Martin of Abilene; his children, James Martin of Abilene, Amy McDonald (Jerry) of Abilene, Emily Lee (Richard) of Abilene, and David Martin (Amy) of Burkburnett; his sister, Cecilia Haman of Minot, North Dakota; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Sylvester Martin, and his sister, Pauline Voller. Funeral services will be held Monday March 30, 2026, at 10am at Elm Creek Baptist Church 6110 FM 89, Tuscola TX, 79562 with burial to follow with military honors at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 1 pm. Visitation will be held Sunday March 29, 2026, from 5-7pm at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. Abilene TX, 79601
