Sonja Atwood, 84 of Abilene, Texas entered into heaven on Friday, July 23, 2021. Sonja was born to Harold and Idella (Warren) Aldrich on October 13, 1936 in Montrose, Colorado. She was raised mostly in Norwood, Colorado where she lived on the Lone Cone Ranch. A place she always carried close in her heart.
She was married to James Dillon Sr. with whom they had five children and later in life she would marry Bill Atwood, her September love. They were married 30 years before his passing.
Sonja loved people, the outdoors, and her Native American heritage. She was a member of the Cherokee tribe in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas.
The last three years were especially dear to her where she built many wonderful friendships that she cherished at Wisteria's Place Independent Living in Abilene, Texas.
Sonja was preceded in death her husband Hewitt (Bill) Atwood; parents Harold and Idella Aldrich; brother, Harold Aldrich, children, James Lloyd Dillon, Debra Dillon Hayes, Tamara Jean Berry, and Robert Paul Dillon; grandson, Jeremiah James Mullins, and great granddaughter Jasmine Elizabeth Mullins.
She is survived by her daughter, Cora Colleen "Coco" Mullins and her husband Jeff of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Hudson, David Berry, James Dillon III and wife Vivian, Douglas Dillon and wife Jodi, Rosalind Dillon, Jessica Dillon, Michael Dillon and wife Katie, Rachel Dillon, Caleb Mullins and wife Sarah, Adam Mullins and wife Jessica, and Aaron Mullins; great grandchildren, Aiden, Logan, Sage, Wren, Emma, Kassia, James, Alex, Allison, Jackson, Axel, Payton, Miles, Connor, Molly, Kendall Jo, Craig; sister-in-law, Bertilla Aldrich ; nephew, Brian Aldrich and niece, Natasha Tepper and her husband Jeremy.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers at Hendricks Hospital, Hendricks Rehab Hospital, and Windcrest Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Texas. Crossroads Rehabilitation and Nursing home of Hearne, Texas for their compassionate and loving care in her final days.
