Obituary

Stuart Lee New, 57, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Abilene, Texas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. In his final moments, he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born in Anson, Texas, on September 2, 1968, to Johnny and Thelma Jennings New, Stuart grew up in Hawley, Texas, and graduated with the Class of 1987. He spent many years working at the mill, carrying on the work and dedication of his father. If you knew Stuart, you knew there was never a dull moment around him. His greatest gift was bringing laughter to others, and he leaves behind countless memories, smiles, and stories that will be cherished for years to come. He is survived by his children, Justin New and wife Terra; Sarah Long and husband Sam; Jacob New and wife Tanya; and their mother, Angie; eight beautiful grandchildren, with one more on the way; his brothers, John New and Curtis New; his partner and best friend, Stacey Phillips; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly. In the last weekend of his life, Stuart experienced an incredible and spontaneous worship session, after which he shared, "I was kind of afraid when I first found out I was dying, but you know? I'm not afraid anymore." As a born-again believer who had given his life to Christ, Stuart wanted all those he loved to know one final thing. His last message to family and friends was simple and sincere: "Please tell them all that I love them." Stuart's laughter, stories, and love for the people in his life will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Hendrick Hospice and North's Funeral Home for the reverence, kindness, and exceptional care they showed Stuart and our family during this difficult time. Your compassion and support will never be forgotten. A memorial service celebrating Stuart's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Brazos Bend Cowboy Church, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 180 and FM 1226 in Funston, Texas, approximately five miles east of Anson. Pastor J.W. Raney will officiate. Immediately following the service, in accordance with Stuart's wishes, his ashes will be laid to rest at Hawley Cemetery, beside his parents and among so many beloved family members and friends. Everyone is warmly invited to attend the burial as we gather to honor Stuart's life and say our final, "See ya soon."
