Thelma Vinson Joeris passed away on Tuesday January 8 2013. There will be a visitation on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary from 6 – 6:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street. Funeral Services will be on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. with burial in Clyde Catholic Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Thelma was born September 1 1915 on a farm near Rockwood Texas to Edward M. and Elizabeth McCreary Vinson. She attended Concho Peak School then Rockwood High School and finished high school in Santa Anna Texas. She attended Draughon's Business College then did secretarial work at H. N. White Music Company and at Camp Barkeley during its construction. She married Fred Joeris in 1942 and spent some time in Florida while her husband was stationed there and also in New Hampshire while he was with a special cadre at the University of New Hampshire. After her husband came from Europe when WWII was over they settled in Abilene and raised their family of seven children. She was a stay-at-home mom and loved to cook and prepared many wonderful healthy meals for her family relatives and friends. She was a long-time volunteer at St. Vincent-de-Paul Thrift Store. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband of fifty three years at the time of his death Fred B. Joeris five brothers five sisters and two grandchildren. She is survived by her four sons and three daughters: Stephen of Winters Texas Paul and wife Cindy of Groesbeck Texas Richard of Buffalo Gap and John and wife Rhonda of Winters Texas Kathleen Wortell and husband George of Austin Texas Cecilia Joeris of McAllen Texas and Judith Derrick and husband Kenneth of Dodson Texas; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Her grandsons will be pallbearers. Our special thanks and appreciation to those who cared for her while in Wisteria Assisted Living Mesa Springs Nursing Home and Hospice Care. Very special thanks go to Pat Kent of Abilene who gave comfort support and love and was like a daughter to our mother. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice.
