Obituary

Thomas Dale Wishart, 84, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2024. The memorial service will be held at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street, Abilene TX, Saturday, September 7, 2024. The family will welcome you for visitation at 10:00 am with services starting at 11:00 am (military honors). Tom was born to Thomas Wishart and Opal Elizabeth Uhrig on July 5,1940 in Flint, Michigan. After growing up in Kalkaska, MI, he joined the United States Army "to travel the world". During his proud military career, he was promoted to the rank of Seargent First Class (Ret). He served in the 325th PIR of the 82nd Airborne division as a BAR gunner, parachuting often. Later, he served as a member of the 490th CA Bn and deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In his civilian career he graduated from Michigan State University with an Associate Degree in Engineering. Early in his career he worked as a millwright for Fisher Body in Lansing, MI, as a part of General Motors Corp. After moving to beautiful West Texas, he first worked in the oil field then later retired from the City of Abilene-Water Department, as the welder. His hobbies included traveling abroad, attending antique car shows, photography, and maintaining his vintage cars and trucks. Preceding him in death was his loving wife Ruby Wishart and parents Tom Wishart and Opal Elizabeth Uhrig, as well as his brothers William "Bill" Wishart and Ronald Joseph Wishart. Tom is survived by his loving family: Marjorie S. Allen (Evan), Indianapolis, IN - Children, Jami, Justin and Joshua; Thomas D. Wishart (Stacey), McComb, MS - Children, Belinda, Tommy, Zachary, Brittany, Levi; David O. Wishart (Rebel) Pearland, TX - Children, Joseph, Annie, Katelynn, Eliza; Katherine W. Porche (Michael) Roswell, GA - Children, Jessica, Blake. He also had 31 beloved great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. As well as other family members who love him dearly. The Wishart Family would like to give a special thank-you to Dad's neighbors and church family who loved and looked after him for years after Ruby's passing. Thank you to all our family and friends for your love and support for our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and Great-great-grandfather.
