Obituary

Tommy L. Sparks (Mammie), 65, of Abilene, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015. Services will be 1:00 Tuesday at North's Memorial Chapel with James Sparks, Tyler Sparks and Larry Fitzgerald, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Monday at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street. Tommy was born September 1, 1949 in Knox City, Texas to Dan Sparks and Maria Lederle Sparks. He graduated from Hawley High School in 1966. That summer he entered the U.S. Army and did a tour in Vietnam from 1967-1968. After leaving the Army he graduated from Hendrick School of Nursing and worked at West Texas Medical Center. Tommy re-entered the Army, serving in San Antonio, Colorado, and Germany, and retired in 1989 at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Coby Thompson and John Sparks, and John and Carolyn's mother Patricia Couger. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Luttrell of Midland, sister Jeanette Ball and her husband Glenn, of Abilene, and three brothers: John Sparks and his wife Anna of Tallahassee, Florida, James Sparks and his wife Shirley of Abilene, and Dany Sparks; five grandchildren: Zach and Christa Watson of Midland, and Rachel, Chloe and Cayden Thompson of Abilene, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially his friends at Walmart and Albertson's. Pallbearers will be Terry Sparks, Cody Watson, Zach Watson, Bo Couger, Aaron Sparks and Glenn Ball. Honorary Pallbearers are Randy Sparks, Michael Williams, Steve Williams and Alan Burton. The family would like to thank Hendrick Hospice for taking such good care of our loved one. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tommy's favorite charities, Salvation Army and Hendrick Hospice. We are so proud of our Dad, Brother, and Friend. We love you and will miss you. Thank you for your service to our country. We hope you get to party like it is 1999.
