Trinie Bertha Thornburg, 83, of Abilene, Texas went home with our Lord on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Trinie was born June 6, 1937 in Fabens, Texas to Simona C. Ybarra and Ricardo B. Ybarra. She was the 9th of 12 children. She married Floyde Arthur "Chuck" Thornburg and was married for 62 years until his passing in 2018. They had five children: Patti Palmer, Rick Thornburg, Lanny Thornburg, Randy Thornburg and Denise Tauer. Trinie supported her husband "Chuck" all her life traveling the country with the military life all the while taking care of her children, especially her special child, Lanny, who had Down's Syndrome and they finally settled in Abilene, Texas in December of 1978. Living the military life having to move so much for 20 years, that it became a norm even after Chuck retired from the military that it became a family joke. Trinie would get the itch to move again after they finished remodeling the home they were in and say: "This is the last time we are moving!" After 3 years would go by, more remodeling done, that moving itch came again...and again...until all of family would take bets on how long they would stay in the next house. Trinie was a woman with a good sense of humor at times and she loved playing card games with her family but often she would be found "cheating" at the game and when caught cheating, she would make excuses and just giggle about it! She also had a love for dogs, so long as she had them for a very short duration...they all ended up at one of her children's homes. So...all her children all started "pre-ordering" dogs of what they liked because they knew one of them would end up with it. Trinie battled many obstacles throughout her life from learning how to speak English after being enrolled in elementary school, growing up and raised in the cotton fields of California, traveling the country being a military wife, and struggling raising a son, Lanny, with Down's Syndrome and finding appropriate education for him throughout his life. She primarily stayed at home but worked from time to time at nursing homes, and Abilene State Supported Living Facility. Trinie and Chuck were also home providers for MHMR individuals for several years. Trinie acquired many friends as she was always generous to others and showed her faith by her actions. She was a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church and was very strong in her faith and you would often hear of her trying to preach to others to come back to the Church. She was a woman who said the rosary every night and she also spent many hours in adoration of our Lord at the Chapel. Trinie is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Floyde Arthur "Chuck" Thornburg, her father Ricardo B. Ybarra and mother Simona C. Ybarra, her brothers, Mark Ybarra, Manuel Ybarra, and sisters, Alice Camacho, and Rose Reyes. She is survived by her five children: daughter Patti Palmer and husband Rodney Palmer, son Rick Thornburg and wife Keri Thornburg, son, Lanny Thornburg, son Randy Thornburg and wife Janice Thornburg, and daughter Denise Tauer and husband Joe Tauer. She is also survived by her brothers: Tony Ybarra, Sal Ybarra, Jesse Ybarra, and Phillip Ybarra, and her sisters Petra Cabrera, Josephine Bravo, and Dolores Cabrera, as well as 13 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., with Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 1:00 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive, Abilene, Texas with Fr. Emilio Sosa officiating. Interment will follow in the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Abilene, Texas, 7457 W. Lake Road, under the direction of North's Funeral Home.
