Obituary

Vida Swanson 96 of Abilene passed away Monday April 25 2011.Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at North's Memorial Chapel with Doug Royston officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Vida was born January 27 1915 to Wilbur Edwin Reed and Lucy May Means Reed in Yale Oklahoma. She was orphaned at the age of fourteen and raised by her older sisters.  She married Harry Norman Swanson on April 22 1932 in Guthrie Oklahoma. She retired from AFES in 1985. She was an avid bridge player and member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband H. Norman Swanson; sisters: Esther Merrill Lottie Ziemer Joan Shira Billie Cranfield Agatha Veal and Nathalie Shelthrop; one brother Robert B. Reed; and one granddaughter Penelope Sue Swanson. She is survived by her son Michael Swanson and wife Mary Evelyn of Abilene; her daughter Nancy Powell and husband Charles of Kennedale Texas; three grandsons: Steven Powell and wife Cynthia of Arlington Michael Powell of Garland Kevin Swanson and wife Laura of North Richland Hills; a granddaughter Kathy Reinert and husband David of Abilene; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and ten loving nieces and nephews and their families.
