Obituary

WANDA MAE HALE KNIGHT DOUGLASS, 85, left this world peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014. Wanda's life was a true testament of dedicated service to God, her family, and everyone she met. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m., University Church of Christ, Abilene TX. Visitation will be held Friday, March 14 from 6–8 p.m., University Church of Christ Family Room. Wanda Mae Hale was born May 3, 1928 in Roby TX to Nina Rasberry and George Jackson Hale. Being raised in Abilene, Wanda attended Abilene High School and Abilene Christian College. Wanda married Oliver Doyle Knight September 10, 1948 in Abilene TX. Wanda and Oliver lived in Eunice NM, Denver City TX, and Midland TX where they were members of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Following Oliver's death in 1965, Wanda worked in Midland as a seamstress, then worked for SEARS as a Supervisor and Decorating Consultant (1971–1987). Wanda married Harold Clinton Douglass January 23, 1997 in Midland TX and enjoyed four wonderful years of travel and blended family activities. They attended the Fairmont Park Church of Christ. Wanda moved back to Abilene TX in 2003 and was an active member of the community at Christian Village where she enjoyed the Red Hatters, quilting, and library organization. She volunteered for community programs like R.S.V.P. as well. She was a member of University Church of Christ. Wanda is survived by two children: Ted Knight and wife Glenda of Hawley TX, Anita Woods and husband David of Kilgore TX; four grandchildren: Nathan Knight and wife Jo Ann of Hawley TX, Chaney Gipson and husband Jason of Abilene TX, Courtney Noe and husband Skye of Edmond OK, Kayla McClendon and husband Jason of Houston TX; six great grandchildren: Delaney and Britlyn Knight, Maddison and Garrett Gipson, Carter Noe and baby Noe expected in May 2014. Wanda's extended family includes the Douglass children: Gary Douglass and wife Becky of Amarillo TX, Kay Tucker and husband Gary of Rochester Hills MI; four grandchildren: Michelle Chaney and husband C J of Abilene TX, Paul Douglass and wife Kim of Amarillo TX, Timothy Tucker and Anne Tucker of Rochester Hills MI; three great grandchildren: Alyssa, Caleb, and Evan Chaney. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers [Willie Jim Hale and Ray Hale], one sister [Emogine Hale Kiker], and two husbands. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to University Church of Christ Helping Our Heroes program [Abilene TX] or the Quilting Ministry at Christian Village [Abilene TX]. We wish to express special thanks to Hendrick Health Systems and the nurses of ICU, Collier 3, Collier 6, and Parker 5 for their excellent care.
