Wanda Jean Johnson Our family matriarch, Wanda (aka. Mommy, Mom, Wan, Grannie, Nonnie, Nana, Sis, Auntie, and Little Grannie) left for Glory Land on August 22, 2021 and was met by all of her family and fell into Shirley's arms as she heard her say "What the hell took you so long Sis." A Visitation will be held Tuesday August 31, 2021 at North's Funeral Home from 5-7pm. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday September 1, 2021 at 10am at Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Wanda entered this world on October 14, 1926, in Colorado City, Texas to Claude & Flora Stricklin as the third of six children. She attended Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Texas where she excelled academically and graduated valedictorian of her class. Shortly after high school, she met a young USAF pilot, Scott Cameron Johnson and they married in Kearney, Nebraska on December 20, 1943. As a young couple, they were stationed in many places and began their family in 1946 with the birth of their son Scott Cameron Jr. A year later in 1947 Pamela Jean was born, followed by Stephen Campbell in 1951, Penny Lynn in 1952 and finally Stuart Craig in 1955. As a young family who served our country, Wanda spent many years supporting and raising her children solo as Scott was deployed numerous places all over the world. When he passed away in February 1971, Wanda moved around Texas before finally settling in Houston in the late 70s. These were the best of years for her children and grandkids as too many times to mention were spent at her home, 30 people squeezed on the couch, watching her stacked TVs, sharing stories, eating whatever meal she made up and of course ending up piled onto her king-sized bed talking and laughing until we cried. The next morning, she would have a big country breakfast waiting for us that included the "best eggs ever" waffles, biscuits and gravy with bacon. For nearly 20 years, Wanda served as the face of Kelley's Beauty Salon on 1960 in Houston alongside her daughter Pam and the "Kelley Girls". She retired in the 90s to spend her time with her growing family including the addition of great-grandkids who always loved whatever toy or surprise she had waiting for them when they got to her house. Later, Wanda was able to enjoy several good friends through her bible study group in The Woodlands where she lovingly served as chauffer and activity director for several of them.
