Wanda Marie Gipson Shooter, 91, of Abilene, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015.
Wanda was born October 12, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Orin G. Holt and Minnie Leib Holt.
A Celebration of Wanda's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Texas, with Father Fernando Preciado and Deacon Ruben Castaneda officiating. Burial will follow in Breckenridge Cemetery, under the direction of North's Funeral Home.
Wanda graduated from Muskogee Oklahoma High School, and survived the Great Depression. She moved to Dallas, Texas to work as a shoe model at Neiman Marcus.
She was employed by Petco until her retirement. On February 19, 1943, she married (Buzz) Gipson in Tyler, Texas, and was married to him for fifty years until his death in May of 1993. Wanda married again on June 4, 1994 to Lt. Colonel Eugene Shooter (Ret.) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Breckenridge, Texas. She was a devout Catholic who enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, quilting, fishing, reading, and shopping. She was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club, and a tireless worker for The American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, Billy (Buzz) Gipson, and a grandchild, Mark Allyn Averett.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Shooter, a sister, Joan Hughes of Pasadena, Texas, four daughters; Bobette and husband Pete Atwell of Possum Kingdom, Sally and husband Robert Whitley of Breckenridge, Frances Ann and husband Mike Edwards of Woodson, Texas, and Joan Marie Gipson of Breckenridge. She is also survived by her step-children; Eugene Shooter, Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, Mary Real of Cibolo, Texas, Mark Shooter of Lubbock, Texas, Pat Shooter of Round Rock, Texas, and John Shooter of Lubbock, grandchildren; Debbie and Malcolm Bufkin of Breckenridge, Steve and Alysia Atwell of Pflugerville, Brian and Kelly Atwell of Castle Rock, Colorado, Robyn and Joe Phillips of Bryan, Texas, and Rex and Amy Averett of Elyria, Ohio, great-grandchildren; Carol Ann Josselet, Blaine Hare, Peyton and Montana Oliver, Ariana Atwell, Zoey Marie Averett, Cody Atwell and Ava Joley Phillps. Wanda is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She lived a very long and happy life.
Pall bearers will be: Steve Atwell, Brian Atwell, Blaine Hare, and Malcolm Bufkin.
