Waylon D. Mcgee 50 of Hamlin, TX passed away Tuesday March 5th, 2024 in Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be Saturday March 9th 2024 at 11am at First Baptist Church, 217 SW Ave B, Hamlin, TX 79520, with burial to follow at Hamlin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8pm at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St. Abilene, TX. 79601. Waylon Dwayne McGee was born to Neomia McGee Rice and Walter Davis Mason Sr. on December 30, 1973. He attended Hamlin ISD until moving to Big Spring, but later returned to Hamlin to graduate from Hamlin High. During his school years he was an outstanding athlete playing basketball, football and running track. He was drum major in Piper Band, school Mascot and a cheerleader. The track team went to State several years to compete. Waylon was known for his very outgoing, flamboyant personality and crazy hair colors. He was BOLD and Unapologetic. He loved traveling, painting, and online shopping. Way was an event planner, through the best Big Hat Tea Parties ever! He knew how to make everyone feel special, He was the life of the party and always had some "POM PUNCH" ready for the taking. He loved and wanted to be loved. Waylon attended Tarleton State University, UT Arlington, SMU-Dallas, and Abilene Cosmetology/ Barber school. He played semi-pro football in California and Florida for a year. Worked as a personal trainer at 24hour Fitness Club in Florida for a few years. He lived life to the fullest and never complained about the cards he was dealt, just kept smiling through the pain. Waylon loved to cook Waylon was an Ordained Minister since 2010 and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hamlin. His favorite song was I know it was the blood to which he would always say "I knew it was the Blood"- no matter how many times he was corrected. He still would always sing loud I knew it was the blood, and looking at it now- He knew it was the blood that saved him. Such a determined man who didn't let his circumstances handicap him. He wouldn't let anything limit him to doing anything he set his mind to doing, up to and including getting on the roof of his house to make repairs. Waylon was proceeded in death by his mother Neomia Rice, Brothers Bobby and Coy McGee, Grandparents Arthelia & Armstead McGee, paternal grandmother Zelma Fuller, aunts Pearl Hunter, Martha McGee and uncles Thomas Fry, Ray McGee, and Willie Hunter. Left to cherish his memories are his son Cameron McDonald of Dallas; sisters Renea (Bo) Ervine of Abilene, Zelma Mason-Byrd (Samuel) The Bay Area California, Jessica Harrah-Mason of Oregon; Brothers Billy McGee of Monahans, TX, Walter Davis Mason Jr. and John Norman of Abilene; Father Walter Davis Mason Sr. of The Bay Area California; POPS Reginald (Olivia) Titus of Hamlin, aunts Gloria (James) Cork of Midland, Kathy McGee of Big Spring, TX. Nephews Julius (Jessica) Ervine, Brian McGee, Michael McGee, Coy McGee; Nieces: LeAndra Cross, LaKenya Bills, Bridgette McGee, Tiffany Yates (Mark)Willie Dee (Tosha) Yager, Donnetta (Latthadius) Fryer and a host of cousins, family and friends that he loved dearly and they loved him and will miss him dearly.
