Wendell Max (Sandy) Hawkins went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday January 28 2008. He was born in Oklahoma on December 24 1930. He was the son of Thurman Wayne and Vera White Hawkins. He married Betty Jean Burkhalter on April 26 1952 and moved to Abilene. He owned and operated his own business Hawkins Drywall for nearly forty-five years. Services are being directed by North's Funeral Home of Abilene. Visitation will be held at North's Funeral home on Tuesday; from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Graveside service will be held in the Hamby Cemetery and be officiated by Rev. Norman Patton on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Sandy Hawkins is survived by his daughter Rhonda Kaye Minatra and her husband Pat of Abilene his son W.W. (Dub) Hawkins and his wife Jody of Merkel. His grandchildren: April Hawkins and Vera Hawkins of Ft. Worth Tory and Nikki Dean Austin and Tammie Hill of Merkel Dustin and Jamie Parsons of Albany. His great grandchildren which were the joy of his life and he loved playing with them at the farm Barrett Wayne Hawkins of Ft. Worth Triston and JoJo Dean of Merkel Ashtin Dean of Tipton Oklahoma; Taylor Colby Cutter and Tanner Hill of Merkel; Madison and Chelsy Parsons of Albany.
Sandy Hawkins was a ""Wonderful Popa and Pops"" and his life is celebrated here on earth with love and beautiful memories as he celebrates this day in Heaven with our Father Jesus Christ.
