Willard Paul Unruh, 58 years old, of Abilene, Texas passed away on June 8, 2022 in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be at 2:00PM on Sunday June 12, 2022 at North's Funeral Home with Marion Mims "Shorty" officiating. Services are under the direction of North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street in Abilene ,TX 79601. Funeral Services will be held on the 25th of June 2022, in Malin, Oregon at the Presbyterian Church. With burial to follow at the Malin Cemetery. Willard Paul Unruh was born in Klamath, Oregon to Don Willard and Ruth Marie Kalina on May 28th, 1964 . He attended Lost River High School in Portland ,Oregon. He graduated form ITT with a associates degree in computer electronics. He married Lisa Unruh on 21st May 1988 in Tulelake, CA . He was a veteran and entered the United States Air Force on March 9, 1987, at the age of 22. After graduating from basic Military Training at Lackland AFB in Texas, he went directly to technical training school at Sheppard AFB, TX followed by B-1B Field Training Detachment at Dyess AFB, TX. His First assignment was under the greatest command recognized all over the world that made the enemy lose sleep at night, wet their pants and shake in their boots. And not necessarily in that order. That command is better known as SAC or Strategic Air Command. TSgt. Unruh became a SAC trained killer with th 28th BMW,28th Organizational Maintenance Squadron at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD. from September of 1987 to November of 1996, he proudly served in the positions of B-1B Ground Crew Member and assistant crew Chief Dedicated Crew Chief. After leaving Ellsworth AFB, SD due to PCS orders, his next assignment was under Air Combat Command with the 366th Air Expeditionary Wing, 34th Bomb Squadron at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho from November of 1996 to May of 2003. During the assignment, he served as a Dedicated Crew Chief and Sortie Support Shift Chief. After leaving Mountain Home AFB due to th B-1B being reassigned, his next assignment is with 7th BW, 7th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Dyess AFB, Texas from May 2003 to present. TSgt. Unruh served as a dedicated Crew Chief, Shift Supervisor, Assistant Section Chief and Squadron Training Monitor and completed an honorable 23 year career on May 2010. Paul was awarded Air Force Commendation Medal 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal 1 Service Star, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, USAF NCO P Graduation Ribbon 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Experts Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle) and Air Force Training Ribbon. Paul came from a family of 5 children, he was the baby of the family until our little sister came along. He was very active in sports. He loved football, basketball, baseball and track filed in school. He was involved in Boy Scouts Of America, Because of the girls, Paul was also a registered with Girls Scouts for about 15 years. Also, President of Band Booster for 4 years, in Merkel, TX. Paul was also a lifeguard and swimming instructor at our main pool in the late 70's early 80's. In high school he took Home Economics call and made himself a velvet comforter which he still used until recently. Paul received the highest Home Economics award from Lost River High School upon graduation. Paul enjoyed hanging out with family and friends, also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing board and card games with the family and friends.(especially Pinochle). Paul was preceded in death by his parents Don and Ruth Unruh. Grandparents; Voclav and Hazel Kalina, Clyde and Maggie Unruh. Paul is survived by his Wife; Lisa Unruh, daughters; Jacquelyn (Walker Norvell IV) Shelby of Abilene, Texas. Sisters; Karen Rasmussen of Portland, Oregon and Julia Unruh of Malin Oregon. Brothers; David and steven Unruh of Malin Oregon. Niece; Chase Unruh. Nephews; Eric and MaryEllen Rasmussen, Daniel Rasmussen of Portland, Oregon. Great Nieces; Hailey, Elizabeth and Rebekka Rasmussen of Tigard, Oregon. Uncle; Roland and Laura Kalina, of Tigard, Oregon and numerous cousins.
