Obituary

Dr. William Dillard Davis ("Bill") of Abilene, Texas, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2022. Bill was born on January 29, 1936 in Waco, Texas to Retha Mae Davis and Barney Davis. He graduated from Mexia High School and then Baylor University with a B.A. in History. Bill received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine. He met his future wife, Jeanette, during his Tulane general surgery residency, where she was a nurse anesthetist. The newlyweds then lived in Fort Polk, Louisiana, courtesy of the U.S. Army, where Bill was a captain and physician. The couple relocated to Houston where Bill completed his urology residency at Baylor College of Medicine. Bill and Jeanette settled in Abilene where he established his surgical urology practice and they raised their son, William Dillard Davis II. In addition to his interest in medicine, Bill had many pastimes. Over the course of his life, he owned and flew aerobatic airplanes, raced cars (and won a few races), played golf, went on hiking and camping excursions, enjoyed his Porsches and motorcycles, owned and worked a ranch near Buffalo Gap, practiced professional level photography, and shot guns competitively and made bullets. His family was with him throughout these adventures and admired his passion for new experiences. Bill also loved to read and travel. He took his wife and son on numerous vacations to international destinations, as he always thought the best way to learn was through experience. While he was active in work and play, Bill always found time to care for his family. He will be deeply missed. Bill is survived by his son, Will, and his wife, Laurie, his two grandchildren, William Dillard Davis III and Jackson Young Davis, and his extended family – all of whom brought him great joy in his later years. A graveside service at Elmwood Memorial Park will be held on Monday, June 20,2022 at 3:00 pm. Flowers may be sent to North's Funeral Home.
