William "Bill" Walter North was born on September 24, 1940, in El Campo, Texas, to Russell and Willena North. When he was a young child, the family moved to Abilene, where he later graduated from Abilene High School. He attended McMurry University and earned a Bachelor of Business degree and proudly served four years in the Army Reserves. In 1964, he married his first wife, Terry Conlan, and together they had three children. In 2000, he married Gwen Register. Throughout his working life, Bill wore many hats. He sold insurance, worked as a claims adjuster, held a real estate license, and spent time working in the family business. In 2023, due to medical reasons, he moved to the Houston area to be closer to family. Bill found joy in life's simple pleasures and the people around him. He was an accomplished bowler who proudly achieved a perfect 300 game. He was also a dedicated blood donor, giving blood 196 times over more than 30 years - an incredible 26 gallons donated to help others. A longtime member of Heavenly Rest, he faithfully attended the 8 a.m. service each week, sitting in the same pew every Sunday. He especially treasured Saturday morning phone calls with his children, hearing updates about his grandchildren, gathering with his early morning coffee group, bringing donuts to office staff before appointments, and brightening others' days with email jokes and friendly banter. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwen Register; brother James "Bubba" North; sister in law Judy North; brother-in-law Larry McCraw and nieces Cathy Diane McCraw and Lori McCraw Harris. He is survived by his children: Kelly Johnston (Mike) of Bay Village, Ohio; Shannon Morales (Jose) of Bozeman, Montana; and Scott North (Rachelle) of Montgomery, Texas; his sister, Idanel McCraw; his brother, Jack North; his grandchildren, Kelsey Becksfort (Ryan), Kristine Richards (Trent), Kolby Johnston, Kenna Johnston, Benjamin Morales, Jacob Morales, Joseph Morales, Kendall North, and Sam North; and his great-grandchildren, Colton Becksfort, Marleigh Becksfort, and Tatum Richards, along with several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity or local animal shelter in honor of Bill's beloved dog, Major - or that you simply buy a few lottery tickets, one of his favorite pastimes. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5th at 2pm at The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene with a reception to follow.
