William Byron Taylor 85 of Abilene went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday March 5 2008. A graveside service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park with Dr. Joe Marshall officiating under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. He was born in Wingo Kentucky to Elbert Byron and Rhoda Mae (Coltharp) Taylor on August 30 1922. The family soon moved to Paducah Kentucky. In 1942 he enrolled in Abilene Christian College where he met Alva LaVerne Russell and they were married on February 10 1942 in Littlefield Texas. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Abilene Christian College in 1958 and a Master's Degree in Counseling from North Texas State University in 1966. He served as minister of Churches of Christ in Kentucky Oklahoma Arizona and Texas. Byron served as a minister at the Church of Christ in Maryneal Texas for 37 years. He also served as teacher and counselor in public schools in Snyder and Abilene Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Bonnie Troutman and Ozelle Record of Paducah Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 66 years LaVerne of the home. Two daughters; Janet Flournoy of the home and Sue Wiman of Charlotte North Carolina. One son David R. Taylor and wife Lee of Lubbock Texas. Four grandchildren; Chris Taylor and wife Dawn of Lubbock Texas Traci Lawless of Euless Texas Andrew Miller and wife Janna of Matthews North Carolina and Gregory Miller of Charlotte North Carolina and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Wilma Marshall and husband Dr. Joe Marshall of Abilene. Other survivors include two brothers; Burton Taylor of Louisville Kentucky and a twin brother Boyd Taylor of Garland Texas. Six nephews and four nieces remain. The family wishes to thank a special friend and nurse Sandra Guerrero and family and Hospice of the Big Country for their excellent care of Byron throughout his illness and passing.
