William "Dub" Ward Jr. 88 of Abilene passed away Wednesday February 9 2011.Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Wylie Baptist Church with Lee Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Dub was born November 19 1922 in Abilene to William Edward Ward and Clemmie Christian. He attended Wylie Schools before he joined the Army Air Corp during WWII. He married Darlene Simmons on June 2 1945 in Caps Texas. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1956 and from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1960. He pastured Baptist churches in Oklahoma Indiana and Illinois before returning to Texas in 1985. He pastured churches in Texas from 1985 until 1989 when he retired. He moved to Abilene in 1989 and was an active member of Wylie Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son Billy Ernest Ward in 1998 and a sister Fern Ward. He is survived by his wife Darlene; two grandchildren: Billy Ernest Ward Jr. and wife Christina of North Carolina and Linda Marie Ward also of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren: Billy Ernest Ward III and Christopher Ward; and a sister Addell Ward of Abilene.
