Obituary

Rev. Willie James Andrews 88 of Abilene, Texas passed away Thursday, October 27th, 2022. Funeral services will be held Thursday November 3, 2022 at 12 pm at New Light Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-7pm at New Light Baptist church located at 518 N. 6th St. Abilene, TX. Reverend Willie James Andrews was born on May 11, 1934 in Laurel Mississippi to parents James Roosevelt and Willie V. (English) Andrews. Willie attended primary education in Laurel. He obtained his Bachelor of Theology from the New World Bible Institute in Texarkana, Arkansas. Willie enlisted in the US Airforce October 26, 1954 as a Communications Specialist (De-Coder) and retired August 1, 1975 from Kelly AFB in San Antonio, TX. He served his Country Proudly for 21 years. He met the love of his life Barbara (Moore) Andrews and they were united in Holy Matrimony on May 12, 1969 in Anson, TX. Following retirement, they moved to Abilene in 1975. To their union one son was born on May 22, 1982, Jeffery Renaldo- he was the joy of his father's life from day one right up until the day he passed away Nov. 8, 2020. Willie served as a deacon at New Light Baptist church many years. He was a member of the brotherhood, served as President both local and in Progressive West Texas District Association. Willie was a Sunday School Teacher, BTU teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Brotherhood Teacher as well as a member of the male chorus. He accepted his call into the Ministry and was licensed April 30, 2017 by the late Pastor Eddie Jordan. Willie enjoyed people and football, he worked as a clerk at Skinny's Convinced stores, Abilene State School, Abilene ISD (Franklin, Mann, Abilene High and Cooper) Willie loved to sing (softly) I am a living testimony and Blessed Assurance Jesus Is mine because he had a personal relationship with the Lord. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Earl Andrews, and a sister Nelda Ruth Dace and His one and only son Jeffery. Left to cherish his memories loving wife of 50 plus years Barbara Faye Andrews, daughter- in- law Angela Andrews and granddaughter Miyannah Smith, a brother John Oliver Andrews of Laurel MS, and special sister-in-law Louise Griggs (who sat with Willie to allow Barbara to attend Church functions), nieces, nephews and a host of loving family, and friends who will all miss him greatly.
