Wilma Jean Lewis April 16, 1954 - August 4, 2025 Wilma Jean Lewis 71 of Abilene, TX. passed away Monday August 4, 2025 Funeral Services will be held Monday August 11, at 10am at North's Funeral Home with burial and Military Honors to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5-7pm at North's Funeral Home. Wilma was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Faye Bentley and Curtis Harris. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. In the spring of 1984, she married Willie Lewis Jr. in Hahn, Germany. Wilma lived a life marked by strength, service, and joy. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, she served her country with honor and distinction. Her commendations included the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, and Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon with two bronze oak leaf clusters for her service during Operation Desert Storm. Following her military career, Wilma continued to serve others as a dedicated educator, impacting the lives of countless students with her compassion, intelligence, and commitment. She was also a devoted member of her community, often found volunteering or staying active at the gym. An avid walker, she could easily outpace people half her age. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Harris and Faye Bentley; her sister, Anne Marie Harris; and her brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Harris. She is survived by her loving husband, Willie Lewis Jr.; her children, Davon Curry & Sonia Herrera, Natasha Lewis; her sister, Alice Jackson; and her grandchildren, Alize and Enzo Dennis, Trevon Curry, and Dom'nik Alaniz-Curry. Wilma will be remembered as a devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother, respected veteran, and passionate math teacher. Her strength, warmth, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family of Wilma Jean Lewis extends our sincere gratitude to Dr. Joshua Gray, Dr. Jose Velasco, Dr. Jeffrey Edwards, and the nurses and staff: Audrianna, Daylee, Emily, Gem, Jenna, Kaiden, Kenedee, Landon, Marcus, Mike, and Stella.
