Obituary

Winefred Mozelle Chaney, 91 years old, of Abilene, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in Abilene, Texas. Mozelle was born in Brownwood, TX to Lewis & Josephine Ray on March 21, 1931. She attended Brownwood High School in Brownwood, TX and she graduated in 1949. She attended Daniel Baker College and graduated from the University of Colorado with honors in 1970. She was a 1st grade teacher with the Abilene Independent School District for 20 years. She married the love of her life John Ellis Chaney on November 23, 1950 and together they had 5 sons and 1 daughter. Together they took their family all over the world as they were relocated with John's military career. Over the years they were blessed with 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John and Mozelle retired to Lake Coleman,TX. She enjoyed fishing with John, working in her gardens, sewing for her granddaughters, and hosting a multitude of family get-togethers. The grandchildren enjoyed spending summers there, playing school with Grandma, licking the bowl from the blueberry muffins, unwrapping chocolate kisses for cookies as they sat on the counter, getting goody bags and waving goodbye from the bottom of the hill. She was the Secretary and Treasurer for the Lake Coleman Fire Department and enjoyed playing bridge with her neighbors. Mozelle Chaney was preceded in death by her husband, John Chaney; Sons, Bryan, David and Bill, Granddaughter, Jennifer Parker, her parents Lewis E and Josephine Ray, Brothers Lewis Jr. and his wife Helen, Hue Ben and his wife May, Macey and his wife Nancy and Sister Wilda and her husband James Adams Mozelle Chaney is survived by Son; John Jr. and wife Brenda, of Forney, Texas and their son Jagen and his wife Heather of Heath, Texas; Son-in-law Joe Parker (Jennifer) of Heath, Texas. Son, Mickey and his wife Karen of Abilene, Texas and their children Jessica Moore and her husband Zach of Abilene, Texas; Jordan and his wife Brittany of Abilene, Texas; Daughter, Susan Buck and her husband Wolfgang of Hemmingen, Germany and daughters Melody Klingler and her husband Ben Bagnaschi and his daughter Amelia of Austin, Texas; Katy Kachikis and her husband Greg of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law Tracy (David) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and their children Emily of Charlotte, NC and Erin and her husband Keith of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Chris Chaney of Rydal, Georgia; Great Grandchildren, Braeden and Logan Parker of Heath, Texas; John and Emma Chaney of Heath, Texas; Jacob and Caleb Moore of Abilene, Texas; Pierce and Dillon Kachikis of San Antonio, Texas, Gavin and Mackenzie Chaney of Rydal, Georgia and her sister Rebecca Jo Harper and her husband John B. Harper of Brownwood, TX, three nephews and nine nieces. Pallbearers will be Jagen Chaney, Jordan Chaney, Zach Moore, Jacob Moore, Ben Bagnaschi, Greg Kachikis, Joe Parker; Honorary Pallbearers Braeden and Logan Parker, John and Emma Chaney, Caleb Moore, Pierce and Dillon Kachikis.
