Winston Heidenheimer of Cisco passed away Tuesday October 7 2008. He was 90 years old. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday October 13th in Elmwood Memorial Park. Rabbi Murray Berger will officiate under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday October 12th in North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. Mr. Heidenheimer was born December 20 1917 in Galveston Texas. He was the son of the late Moses and Lelia (Winston) Heidenheimer. He attended public schools and was a graduate of Ball High School. He then attended Texas A&M University from 1937 – 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor he graduated a semester early in December 1941 with a degree in Military Science; at which time he was ordered to active duty as a Second Lt. in the Field Artillery at Ft. Sill Replacement Training Center. He later served with the 7th Armored Division 434th Field Artillery Battalion. Upon discharge Texas A&M had not resumed last semester Petroleum Engineering courses; and therefore he finished his Petroleum Engineering Degree at the University of Texas. In 1949 at the request of his Uncle Alfred he moved to Anson Texas to work at Heidenheimer's department store. After Alfred's death that same year Mr. Heidenheimer remained in Anson for five years. He married Ruth Deutch on August 29 1954 in St. Louis and they moved from Anson to Winters Texas. In September 1957 he opened the Heidenheimer's department store in Cisco and the same month celebrated the first birthday of his son Mark. Mr. Heidenheimer was a past President of the Cisco Country Club and the Lions Club. He also served on the Board of the Comanche Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was active in promoting the Graham Hospital and the Hilton Memorial Center in Cisco. In Abilene he was a past President of his synagogue Temple Mizpah. During his tenure as President the services of an ordained Rabbi (Sal Kaplan) were obtained for regular services for the first time in the history of the synagogue. He was a long time member of the Abilene Philharmonic Board. He also supported the Abilene Opera Association Grace Museum A.C.T. Center of Contemporary Arts and the Interfaith Council. He was preceded in death by his parents his daughter Sarah Ann and two brothers Jim and Gene. He is survived by his wife Ruth; one son Mark and wife Kathy of McKinney Texas and many nieces and nephews.
